When it comes to memoirs there is always a theme that runs throughout the story that the author wants to write about. In “The Glass Castle” I believe that theme is Believing in your dreams and doing what you want to do.Throughout the whole story Jeanette never got to do what she wanted to do. Someone or something was always in the way of her pursuing her dreams. But as the story progresses she grows up and does what she believes she can do.
To every memoir there is always a voice, a voice of the story and the main character themselves. In “The Glass Castle” we look through Jeanette Walls life. And we look from her childhood years, her teen years and her life from beyond the pages. From every adventure to every fight.
The first thing that I noticed when reading “The Glass Castle” is that there were many things that were connected to The Walls life. The first symbol that I noticed was there pets. Throughout there years pets were constant but they came and went very quickly.
Through the memoir the Wall family never actually stayed in one place like normal families usually do. But instead they were always on the move. If they ever did stay in one place for a little while they only stayed for about 1 year because of there constant fear of being caught. The only ever constant thing in The Walls life was there many cars. Therefore the setting for them was on the road and in one of there many old used cars.
